sports car world, as well as the space and comfort of the SUV world.
Here is a look at the luxury SUVs available.
BMW X5
The BMW X5 is the definition of a luxury sport utility vehicle. Can you
imagine an all wheel drive, any road, and any time vehicle that can do
0-60 in only 6.2 sec; well that's what you get with the 340hp V8 engine
packed inside this SUV.
Throughout, inside and out, BMW's classic sporty styling echoes in the
BMW X5 design, making this vehicle unique and distinctive yet
unmistakably BMW. The BMW X5 is built for families who want adventure
readiness and SUV versatility combined with joyful, driving capability.
Lexus LX 470
This luxury SUV is newly styled, and comes with enticing new options.
One of these is Lexus's Night View system, which uses a unique
night-vision camera and light sensors to project an image on the
windscreen, showing the driver what lies ahead. Fast, roomy, and easy to
handle, the Lexus LX 470 is also as feature-loaded as any Lexus vehicle
on the road.
The engine inside the Lexus LX 470 is a 4.7-litre V8, which produces 235
hp at 4800 rpm, and 320 lbs-ft of torque at 3400 rpm. This SUV performs
exceptionally in all conditions, thanks to its all-wheel drive system
with low-range gearing, limited-slip center differential, and
limited-slip rear differential. Its Adaptive Variable Suspension system
provides driver-adjustable shock absorbers and ride height, enhancing an
already smooth ride.
Lexus RX 330
Lexus once again revolutionizes the SUV with its all-new 2004 RX 330.
The RX 330 will become the first Lexus to be manufactured in North
America when production begins on a new line at Toyota Motor
Manufacturing, Canada, seven months after initial production starts at
the Kyushu plant in Japan. Several new features help the RX 330 raise
the standard in the entry-luxury SUV segment; including the innovative
Adaptive Front lighting System (AFS), adjustable-height air suspension,
adaptive cruise control, power rear lift gate, and rear backup camera.
A revised V6 engine displacing 3.3 liters and producing 230 horsepower
and 242 lb-ft. of torque powers the RX 330. It features a new electronic
drive-by-wire throttle and continuously Variable Valve Timing with
intelligence (VVT-i) system for excellent response. Teamed to a new
five-speed electronic automatic transmission, the larger V6 gives the RX
330 all-wheel drive model a best-in-class zero-to-60 mph time of 7.8
seconds while providing EPA estimated fuel mileage of 18 mpg city / 24
mpg highway.
Land Rover Range Rover
The Land Rover Range Rover is the largest vehicle in this manufacturer's
line-up. Big brother to the compact Freelander and the slightly smaller
but full-sized comfort-oriented Discovery, the Range Rover has been
described as "the most capable vehicle in the world". You name it and
the Land Rover Range Rover probably has it as standard equipment.
The real Range Rover story comes when the hood is opened. This is only
the third all-new Range Rover in 31 years and it has been made with more
power than ever before although with a smaller, lighter and more
efficient powerplant. On this one, an all-aluminum, 4.4-litre V8 BMW
manufactured engine has been thoroughly modified for off-road use on a
Land Rover platform and as such it is fully capable of wading through
water, heavy-duty towing and negotiating steep off-road angles. A
free-revving, 32-valve V8, it produces 282 horsepower at 5,400 rpm and
generates 325 lbs-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm.
Mercedes Benz G500
The G500 has a great military heritage. It is the German Hum-V, with a
bit more class. It has super-strong rigid axles at the front and rear as
well as longitudinal and transverse links ands gas shocks at all four
corners. It also had four-wheel disc brakes and 18-inch wheels.
Powered by a 292 horsepower 5.0-liter V8, the G500 can climb grades up
to 36 degrees and is stable on lateral slopes up to 24 degrees. The
engine is hooked to a five-speed automatic transmission. The Mercedes
makes a respectable 292 hp at 5500 RPM, and 336 lbs-ft of torque at 2800
RPM.
Mercedes Benz ML350
The ML350 is as on-road smooth as it is off-road tough. But even if you
never travel far off the beaten path, the combination of a powerful
3.7-litre V-6 and responsive driver-adaptive 5-speed automatic
transmission offers a quick start to a getaway weekend. It is also
accommodating enough for everyday duty, with a wood- trimmed,
feature-rich interior that offers comfort and convenience. The Mercedes
makes a respectable 232 hp at 5750 RPM, and 254 lbs-ft of torque at
3000-4500 RPM, and goes 0-100 km/h in 8.7s.
Mercedes Benz ML500
You will travel in exquisite comfort, with quality materials and a wide
array of standard luxuries. With a robust structure and comprehensive
safety features, including eight air bags, you'll feel wonderfully
secure. And with the optional third-row seating, six friends can join
you on your next adventure. With the ML500, prepare to be seduced. If
you love to drive; sport-sedan manners, huge brakes and 6-spoke 17"
wheels with high-performance tires make the curves as much fun as the
straight-aways. This self-assured 288-hp 5.0-litre V-8 thrusts the ML500
from zero to 100 in a mere 7.9 seconds.
Lincoln Navigator
The Lincoln Navigator has been described by most automobile experts as
having the most stunning interior of any SUV in the world. The 2008
model has a redesigned cabin space that is a masterpiece of leather,
wood and satin nickel accents in a gentle fusion of contemporary styling
and traditional Lincoln Luxury. Not only that, but this vehicle is
loaded with some exciting power features all within finger touch
control. Like three passenger fold flat third row seats, power hatch
lift and power deployable running boards.
The first Porsche sport utility vehicle, the Porsche Cayenne, has
been many years in the making. Years which have not been completely free
of speculation, curiosity and skepticism.
Following in all other Porsche's footsteps, the new Cayenne S offers
outstanding on-road performance and handling. However, the real test
comes when it leaves the road. The same smooth and composed Porsche
performance emerges, giving the driver the confidence to tackle almost
any terrain.
The Cayenne S is quite unique. It is a sport utility vehicle approached
from the perspective of a sports car, rather than an elementary truck
like most other SUVs. However, the Cayenne S driving experience is as
rewarding as the 911 or Boxster sports cars.
The Cayenne has handling that is responsive, agile and precise. The
refined 4.5-liter V8 engine delivers fierce and immediate power more in
keeping with that of a contemporary sports sedan. Yet despite this
extraordinary on-road prowess, the Cayenne S must also be considered an
outstanding off-pavement performer. It has been designed and engineered
to allow you to explore Porsche performance capabilities on all types of
roads and in all types of conditions. So competent is the Cayenne S that
every journey is a compelling driving experience.
The permanent all-wheel drive system is complemented with a two-speed
transfer case and lockable center differential to deliver reliable
traction and control on every surface you can throw its way. Advanced
driver aids such as Porsche Traction Management (PTM) and Porsche
Stability Management (PSM) are seamlessly integrated to ensure the
Cayenne always maintains its control. Best of all, you can experience
this remarkable level of SUV performance in an elegant, ergonomically
sophisticated cockpit offering a wealth of luxury amenities. In other
words, the Cayenne S delivers everything you'd expect in a Porsche.
Large SUV Rental
A large SUV rental is the way to go if you are looking for something
rugged and also something that will carry all the people and luggage
that you need to carry. Here at New York SUV Rentals 4x4 For Rent Rent a
SUV NYC Rent A Car, we have many different large SUVs to choose from. If
you are looking for a different SUV variety then try clicking on one of
the links to the right. Below is a look at what you can expect from a
large SUV rental from New York SUV Rentals 4x4 For Rent Rent a SUV NYC.
Chevy Suburban
The Chevy Suburban is one of those vehicles that once its name is
mentioned, you can instantly recognize its design. The Chevy Suburban is
the first veteran of the full-size SUV segment. The four-door Suburban
has enough interior space to seat nine people comfortably. The Chevy
Suburban's instrument panel and cluster have been redesigned to
accommodate the increased processing power of its electrical system. The
Suburban also features a dual-zone manual-control heating, ventilation
and air conditioning (HVAC) system. Additional standards include cruise
control, 6-way power front seats, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/CD
player.
The Suburban never has, and never will, evade its duties as a
high-performance SUV. Inside is a Vortec 5.3-liter V8 that pumps out 285
horsepower at 5200 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque at 4000 rpm. A 4 speed
automatic transmission takes care of all the shifting, all the time. A
battery rundown protection automatically turns off the headlamps, park
lamps and interior lights after 10 minutes if left on inadvertently.
GMC Yukon
The Yukon has become the full-size SUV class's fastest growing vehicle
family, in part because of its spacious seating and tested performance
features. The other part is the Yukon's perfect blend of comfort, safety
and style.
With up to nine passengers, the Yukon pushes the family vehicle where it
never thought possible. There is extraordinary roominess inside the
Yukon, as the trunk is large enough to store whatever can't fit up
front. The Yukon's comes with an AM/FM CD/cassette player, tri-zone
automatic climate control, power steering, tilt leather-wrapped steering
wheel, cruise control and 6-way power front seats with lumbar adjustment
are just part of the package.
The Yukon is no slouch, with a 4.8-liter Vortec V8 engine with 275
horsepower and 4-speed automatic transmission. Standard electronic
throttle control and new oxygen sensors for all Vortec V8s improve
drivability, fuel economy and emissions. Oxygen sensors light off more
quickly and only draw current when needed.
Ford Expedition
The Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV with plenty of ruggedness and a
long list of performance features. But it is the interior styling that
really sets the Ford Expedition apart, as it offers a surprisingly
refined cabin filled with features that result in both passenger and
driver comfort.
The four-door Ford Expedition is a full-size SUV in every sense of the
word. With a wheelbase of 119 inches, the Expedition can seat up to nine
people without a problem. It is designed with a convenient layout for
large families who also have a taste for adventure. The Expedition
becomes even more practical with a first-in-the-industry power fold-down
3rd-row seat, allowing owners to easily increase the trunk space to
accommodate a large volume of goods.
Performance certainly is not an issue with the Expedition. The standard
engine, a 4.6-liter V8 capable of 232 horsepower at 4750 rpm and 291
lb-ft of torque at 3450 rpm, gets up to speed very quickly; no matter
how much weight it is carrying. New independent rear suspension greatly
improves the Expedition's ability to track uneven pavement or terrain
for improved ride comfort and control. Safety is added with standard
antilock 4-wheel brakes, a brake assist feature and dual front airbags.

brash. The new Cadillac Escalade ESV is now even more appealing with
additional options.
Chevy Suburban LT

four-wheel-drive, and a 9,700 lb towing ability in one all-round

Ford Expedition EL

Ford Expedition
Wider availability of the power-folding 3rd-row seat is among 2004
changes to the smaller of Ford's two full-size SUVs. Expedition is
larger than the Explorer, smaller than the Excursion. It comes with 3
rows of seats and is available with a front bench seat for 9-passenger
capacity. It uses V8s of 4.6 and 5.4 liters, both teamed with automatic
transmission.
Ford Explorer
The Ford Explorer was released in March 1990 as a 1991 model. It was
equipped with a 4.0 L 155 hp (116 kW) V6 engine and 4-speed A4LD
automatic transmission or 5-speed M5OD manual transmission. It came in
both 2-door and 4-door bodystyles with available rear or four-wheel
drive. The four-wheel drive versions came with a Borg Warner 1354
transfer case. All Explorers came with the 8.8" Ford rear axle in either
a limited slip or open version with a variety of available gear ratios.
Explorers came in 4 trim levels: base XL, XLT, Sport (only available on
the two-door version), and the upscale Eddie Bauer Edition. 15 hp (11
kW) was added for 1993 for a total of 170 hp (119 kW). The Limited
edition, added for 1993, was available only in the 4-door style and was
even more upscale than the Eddie Bauer version. It featured automatic
headlights, foglamps, an automatic transmission as standard equipment,
an auto-dimming rear view mirror, a center roof console with compass and
outside thermometer, special wheels, and a special grille.
Hummer H2
The H2 is built under contract by AM General at a specially constructed
plant in Mishawaka, Indiana, USA. Although it shares GM's GMT820 truck
platform with the Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon, those vehicles differ
in many ways and are constructed in three other GM plants. The H2's
final frame assembly is made up of 3 sections: The front uses a modified
GM 2500-Series utility frame, the mid-section is all new and is
completely boxed, and the rear section uses a modified GM 1500-Series
frame which is upgraded for the 8,600 pound (3629 kg) gross vehicle
weight.
Hummer H3
The Hummer H3 SUV/Tri/x is a vehicle from General Motors' Hummer
division, introduced in 2006. The H3 is the smallest of the three Hummer
models, and though the H3 concept car was a pickup truck, the final
vehicle is a conventional SUV. Its GMT345 platform is based on the
GMT355 which underpins the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickup
trucks. The H3 is built at GM's Shreveport, Louisiana factory. Export
versions will also be produced at the General Motors South Africa
facility in Struandale, Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
In the American market, the H3 is priced from $29,500 to just over
$40,000. Sales have been strong, with the 33,140 sold in 2005 making up
58% of Hummer's total sales for the year. For the first two months of
2006, 8,071 H3s were sold, 74% of all Hummer sales.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Grand Cherokee was a spinoff of the notably smaller Jeep Cherokee.
The Grand Cherokee's origins date back to 1983 when American Motors
(AMC) engineers were designing a Cherokee successor [1]. The 1989 "Jeep
Concept 1" show car foretold the basic design. The Grand Cherokee was
the first Chrysler-badged Jeep product since AMC came up with the
concept; the AMC engineers/designers behind the project, later Chrysler
employees (after the 1987 buyout of AMC) were eager for a late 1980s
release date; however, then-CEO Lee Iacocca was pushing for redesigned
Chrysler minivans, thus delaying the Grand Cherokee's release until late
1992 as an Explorer competitor.
The Grand Cherokee debuted in grand fashion at the 1992 North American
International Auto Show in Detroit, Michigan. Then-Chrysler president
Robert Lutz drove Detroit mayor, Coleman Young up the steps of Cobo Hall
and through a plate glass window to show off the new vehicle. Production
of the Grand Cherokee started shortly afterward in the purpose-built
Jefferson North Assembly in Detroit, Michigan and has remained there
since.
Lexus RX330
The Lexus RX is a mid-size entry-level luxury crossover SUV produced by
Toyota Motor Corporation. It is the world's first mid-size crossover
SUV. In North America, Europe, Oceania, and parts of Asia, it is sold by
Lexus, Toyota's luxury division, as the Lexus RX series (such as the RX
300, RX 330 and RX 350). It is sold in Japan and in Singapore (until
2003) as the Toyota Harrier. The RX first premiered in 1997 as a Lexus
concept, followed several months later by debut of the production RX
300/Harrier models. In 2003, the second generation RX debuted in the
U.S., and the redesigned RX 330/Harrier went on sale shortly after. In
2004, the RX line added the world's first luxury hybrid, the RX 400h,
and the RX 330 was upgraded to the RX 350 for model year 2007.
As one of the first crossover SUVs on the market, the Lexus RX has
served as a model for subsequent designs. Its commercial success as
Lexus' best-selling model has been attributed to the strong reliability
reputation of Lexus and the RX line.[1] The RX designation, coincidently
similar to the unrelated Mazda RX-7/RX-8 coupes and the Kia Rio RX-V
station wagon in Canada, signifies its place in the Lexus lineup next to
the larger GX and LX SUVs. The RX series is designed to combine the
functional characteristics of a SUV with the ride and features of a
luxury sedan.
Mercedes Benz R350
The R-Class is an MPV/SUV crossover automobile offered by
DaimlerChrysler in 2006 model year under the Mercedes-Benz brand. A
concept was first seen at the 2001 Detroit Auto Show as the Vision GST
(Grand Sports Tourer) concept, and the final production vehicle was
shown at the 2005 New York International Auto Show. DaimlerChrysler
assembles R-Class vehicles destined for the United States, and possibly
other countries as well, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The R-Class is built on
the V251 chassis. The R-Class slots between the M-Class and the
GL-Class. It is not related to the older boxier G Class 4X4.
Although described by the manufacturer as a "Sports Cruiser" many
sources and casual observers have noted that the vehicle is remarkably
similar to a minivan in form, as well as its DaimlerChrysler cousin, the
Chrysler Pacifica.
Land Rover Discovery
The Land Rover Discovery is the middle child of this manufacturer,
falling between the smaller Freelander and the traditional full-size
Range Rover. Built in England, this all-wheel drive off-road machine is
oriented toward function and utility yet it still presents a high level
of interior amenity and luxury content.
Inside the Discovery you will find a solid standard of functional
amenities available. For example: eight-way power-adjustable driver
seats, dual-zone automatic climate control system and an auto-dimming
rear-view mirror.
Classic Land Rover styling continues to be the order of the day. Its
expansive raised greenhouse stepped roof design has been enhanced with a
new front-end design akin to that of the iconic Range Rover. Alpine
windows and an open airy feeling, overall ruggedness and extensive
exterior functionality, including a roof rack, integrated fog lights,
Class IV trailer hitch and six-spoke 16 or 18-inch wheels, all
contribute to value for the consumer.
One of the major areas of development for the Land Rover Discovery has
been under the hood. A powerful 4.6-liter V8 engine has 30 more hp than
the 4.0-liter it replaces with 217hp at 4750 rpm. It is also rated at
300lb-ft of torque, from 2600 rpm, meaning there is plenty of towing
power.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
The Jeep Grand Cherokee has won a wide variety of awards and received
countless accolades as one of the finest sport utility vehicles. In the
world of luxury SUVs, there are those that aspire to greatness and those
who embody it. Look closely at your consideration list and you'll find
that only one vehicle combines more than 60 years of legendary off-road
mastery with the kind of refined amenities that valet parking attendants
dream about, the 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The 4.0L Power Tech I-6, put
out a respectable 195bhp, and 230 lb-ft of torque.
Jeep Wrangler
Wrangler has spent the last 60 years as the only true convertible 4x4 -
it's just one reason why the Wrangler experience can't be matched.
Taking the top off makes life a little more adventurous by becoming one
with the elements. That's the true spirit of Wrangler. Remember to
properly secure all cargo. The Wrangler's interior is comfortable and
full of available safety features. With over 60 years of
four-wheel-drive innovations, Wrangler has taken yet another leap in
factory-built performance. Introducing Tru-Lok Locking Front and Rear
Differentials, designed just for Rubicon. Press the dash-mounted rocker
switch once and a low-pressure actuator pump mechanically locks the rear
axle. Press it again and the front locker is engaged. Then you're ready
to rock.
If you are wondering about performance, well, the front-mounted, 4.5
liters, V8 puts out a respectable 340 hp @ 6,000 rpm, and 310 lb-ft @
2,500-5,500rpm. It can do 0-62 mph in 7.2 sec, with a top track speed of
150 mph. The towing capacity is 7,716 lbs, the ground clearance is 8.45
in, and it has a wading depth of up to 19.685 in.
